Writing Letters: App Developers Edition
Dear App Developers,
People chose their preferences for your app for a reason. If they then choose to accept the update for your app that YOU are making them install, then you should do your best to keep any of those preferences intact.
For example, turning on all the VERY LOUD sounds someone (me!) has turned off previously is a very jarring experience and, in some places (work, library, etc.) can get you in trouble. More importantly, changing the privacy preferences that hide someone’s full name, birth date, location, etc. can put them in actual danger.
Please think before you release an update. Determine which changes to preferences are actually necessary and create a checklist of things to avoid for when developing future updates!
Onward and upward!
Sheri
